Parliamo del tuo nuovo singolo 'There Will Be a Way' com'è nata l'idea per la canzone?
Ho scritto una parte di There Will Be A Way due anni fa ed ho sempre aspettato il momento giusto per finirla. Un paio di mesi fa nel mezzo del lockdown, ho finito il resto della canzone in un'ora perché mi sentivo così connesso ad essa. È diventata davvero la mia stesso canto di battaglia a vedere la luce alla fine del tunnel e sapere che le cose miglioreranno sempre.
Guardando la foto della copertina del brano, puoi raccontarci di più sul concept? Perché la scelta di utilizzare questi 2 colori in particolare?
Il rosso è stato il colore della copertina per Numb e mi è sembrata una buona transizione aggiungere il blu, che per me è più un colore di speranza. Volevo unire i due assieme per connettere anche le canzoni.
Nella tua canzone dai un messaggio di speranza e riuscire a combattere i periodi difficili, cosa consiglieresti a chi è adesso in questa situazione, ovvero intrappolato in sé stesso e nella sua mente, e qual è stata la tua via d'uscita?
Voglio dire...Penso che questo anno sia difficile per tutti mentalmente. È okay non sentirsi okay e spesso accettando ciò o non cercando di combattere quella sensazione, può diventare automaticamente più leggera. Per me cerco sempre di capire la lezione nei momenti difficili, sapendo che queste cose mi renderanno più forte e mi insegneranno di più su me stesso.
Sei stato qui in Italia quest'estate per un paio di eventi live, quali sono le differenza che hai notato tra la musica e l'industria musicale italiana rispetto a quella internazionale? E c'è un ricordo dell'Italia a cui sei particolarmente legato?
Mi è piaciuto venire in Italia per i bellissimi eventi. Il ricordo più bello per ora è stato suonare all'Arena di Verona, che è una venue così iconica conosciuta in tutto il mondo. Il fatto che fosse completamente vuota è stato anche molto speciale. Aveva della tristezza, ma sapevo anche che probabilmente sarebbe stata l'unica volta in cui avrei suonato in un'arena così grande con nessuna persona al suo interno. La più grande differenza penso che sia la moda! Mi sentivo così poco vestito adeguatamente agli eventi, perché tutti spendono una buona quantità di tempo nei loro abiti e sembravano abbastanza glamour. Questo non sono io 😉
C'è un posto specifico nel mondo in cui vorresti suonare e che rapporto hai con chi ti ascolta?
A questo punto mi piacerebbe suonare ovunque. Mi manca così tanto suonare, che mi potresti mettere in qualsiasi palco ormai e sarei felice. Ho una connessione davvero profonda con chi ascolta la mia musica. Penso sia a causa di quanto personale sia la mia musica e sembra che entrare in risonanza le persone, il che è assolutamente magnifico. Anche a causa dei social media che sono diventati più forti perché puoi parlare in tempo reale con persone da tutto il mondo.

Let’s talk about your new single 'There Will Be a Way', how did you come up with the idea for the song?
I wrote a part of There Will Be A Way around two years ago and have always been waiting for the right moment to finish it. A couple of months ago in the midst of the lockdown, I finished the rest of the song in an hour cause I felt so connected to it. It really became my own battle song to see the light at the end of the tunnel and know that things always get better.
Looking at the picture for the cover of the track, can you tell us more about the concept behind it? Why did you choose these 2 colors in particular?
Red was the color of my artwork for Numb and it felt like a nice transition to add blue, which to me is a more hopeful color. I wanted to blend the two together to connect the songs as well.
In your song you give a message of hope and overcoming though times, what is your advice to whoever's in that situation right now, as in trapped in theirselves and their own minds, and what was your way out?
I mean.. I think it’s very hard for everyone this year mentally. It’s ok to not feel ok and often by accepting that or not trying to fight that feeling, it can automatically become lighter. For me I always try to understand the lesson in hard moments, knowing things will make me stronger and teach me more about myself.
You've been here in Italy for a couple of live events this summer, what are the differences you've noticed between our music and italian music industry from the international one? And is there any memory about Italy you are particularly fond of?
I loved coming over to Italy for the beautiful events. The most beautiful memory so far was playing in Arena di Verona, which is such an iconic venue known all over the world. The fact that it was completely empty was also very special. It had a sadness to it, but I also knew that it probably was the only time I’d play this big arena without any people in it. The biggest difference I think is the fashion! I felt so underdressed at the events, cause everybody spends a good amount of time on their outfits and looks pretty glamorous. That is not me 😉
Is there any specific place you would like to play in and what is your relationship with the people who listen to your music?
At this point I would like to play anywhere. I miss playing so much, that you can put me on any stage by now and I will be happy. I have a very deep connection with the people who listen to my music. I think that’s because of how personal my music is and it seems to really resonate with people, which is truly amazing. Also because of social media that has only gotten stronger cause you can talk to people real time from all over the world.
