Hi Outsiders,
today we're back with an interview with a eye-catching group from overseas, South Korea to be exact.
They are an alternative pop-rock back under Evermore Entertainment that debuted on November 1st, 2023, with their first mini album, Catch The Young : Fragments of Youth. Composed by five members: Sani, Kihoon, Namhyun, Junyong and Jungmo. The band calls its music genre "youth pop-rock", encapsulating the core topic of youth and the band's strength in harmony, multi-vocal, and performance skills. As the next generation K-Rock band, they plan to take on new challenges and expand their activities globally by releasing new music, as well as promoting and performing in and out of Korea.

Is there a special on-stage moment from the past few years that made you feel especially proud as a band, or that marked an emotional or professional turning point for you?
Sani: To me, our recent solo concert is the most memorable moment. I performed a solo stage, and the atmosphere of enjoying the concert together with the audience made it especially memorable.
Kihoon: Personally, performing on major festival stages in Korea made me feel a lot of different emotions. It really reinforced my determination to keep improving so I don’t fall behind, and to perform on even bigger stages in front of more people.
Namhyun: Rather than a single turning point, I think it’s the accumulation of moments, such as preparing for each stage and stepping on it, that gradually built my confidence and made me feel proud of myself.
Jungmo: The Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival stage stands out the most. It was a stage I had always dreamed of as a band member, so being able to actually achieve that made it even more meaningful.
Junyong: Every stage is meaningful and something to learn from, but I think solo concerts help us the most. Since we have to lead the entire performance as artists, we learn and grow a lot through that process.
How would you describe the style and essence of the Catch The Young sound in one single word?
Sani: I think “youth” suits us best. It’s a word that represents the direction Catch The Young has aimed for from the beginning and will continue to pursue.
Kihoon: “Youth.” With each passing year, our sound evolves and matures. It truly feels like we’re capturing youth itself, which is why I chose it.
Namhyun: I’d say “nostalgia.” I think we can deliver melodies and sounds that evoke emotions you may have forgotten, yet somehow feel familiar.
Jungmo: I’d say “challenge.” We’ve continuously explored unconventional directions to express our unique color in diverse ways.
Junyong: I’d choose “youth.” For everyone, youth is defined as ‘this very moment’ in their own way. That’s why it’s something anyone can relate to and enjoy together.
Are there specific genres or emotions you are particularly interested in exploring in your future work?
Sani: I’d like to explore more experimental genres. I’m interested in crossover or fusion styles, and genres like shoegaze or post-punk that involve more distorted, textured sounds also sound exciting.
Kihoon: I want to try a more intense, hard rock sound.
Namhyun: Going forward, I want to try more powerful songs that allow us to completely let loose on stage. I’d love to create music where we and the audience can forget everyday stress and just go all out together.
Jungmo: I’d like to take on darker hard rock or metal. We’ve incorporated some hard rock elements before, but I want to push it further toward something more intense, with that heavy, metallic edge.
Junyong: I’d like to try hard rock centered around the theme of rebellion. I want to show a new side of us through a rougher, more straightforward energy.
So far, you have primarily performed in Korea, in Seoul, Incheon, Busan. Are you planning to go on tour anytime soon? Is there any country in the world that you are especially curious about and eager to perform in?
Sani: I’d really love to visit Europe and South America. I’d like to share our music in Italy as well!
Kihoon: Of course, I’d love to tour all around the world. I especially want to perform in Italy, too.
Namhyun: I want to perform in many countries around the world, and personally, I’d love to go to Europe, Southeast Asia, and of course Italy, to enjoy the energy together with fans.
Jungmo: Rather than choosing a specific region, I honestly want to go anywhere our music is wanted.
Junyong: We plan to expand our activities beyond Korea and perform in various countries, and one of my goals is to share Catch The Young’s music live in Italy as well.
Looking ahead, which aspects of your artistic creativity are you most excited to further develop in the coming years?
Sani: I want to further develop the way I write lyrics. I’d like to create lyrics with layers of meaning hidden throughout.
Kihoon: Sometimes I get stressed when no ideas come to mind at all, and I worry about falling behind. Still, I want to grow into someone who can continue to create fresh and creative ideas by drawing from more inspiration and positive influences.
Namhyun: Moving forward, in order to introduce Catch The Young to more people and connect with a wider audience, I want to think more about how we can create more accessible music and bring joy to those who may feel something is missing in their lives.
Jungmo: Personally, I think it’s all about ideas. The more musical ideas you have while performing, the wider your range of expression becomes.
Junyong: I’d say originality. I want to build new genres based on our own unique color and evolve into a new kind of artist.
On your new album EVOLVE, every track is created and produced by you. When producing a song, do you typically start from an emotional instinct or a technical concept?
And are there particular settings or routines that help you find the right creative headspace?
Sani: I usually create songs based on theory and technical knowledge. Rather than drawing inspiration from my surroundings, I tend to start by applying the musical knowledge I already have. As for routines, I don’t think I have a specific routine.
Kihoon: Sometimes I start working spontaneously, guided by instinct, while other times I begin with a defined concept. I try to capture ideas as soon as they come to me, noting them down or recording them on my phone, and then developing them from there.
Namhyun: It depends on different situations, but I often draw inspiration from emotions and memories I’ve experienced throughout my life, imagining them and shaping lyrics, melodies, and the overall mood of a song based on those feelings.
Junyong: When working on lyrics, I try to approach them emotionally, while for instruments, I focus more on the technical aspects. In general, I aim to balance both approaches in my process.
The album includes your focused vocal tracks, one of them titled "Reperio", a Latin word meaning "to find" or "to discover" — through the creation of this project, did you uncover any new aspects of your way of music, either personally or as a group? And how did you come up with this peculiar title?
Sani: While writing the lyrics for “Amplify,” I came across the word ‘ally.’ It means to unite or form a bond, and I felt it matched the mood of the song well, so I decided to use it.
Namhyun: As we continue performing and releasing albums, I’ve become more interested in understanding myself, discovering again what I like, what I want to pursue musically, and more. My tastes keep evolving, and I’m constantly discovering which skills and approaches suit my voice best.
Junyong: Since it’s our first full-length album, we wanted to express our desire to be more recognized as a band. Personally, having become an adult in 2026, I also wanted to convey a sense of anticipation for what lies ahead.
One of the tracks, "Amplify", reflects your determination to push your music forward despite any obstacles. How have you overcome challenging moments throughout your career so far, and what advice would you offer to someone facing similar struggles?
Sani: I think it’s very important not to give up when things don’t go as planned or when you face difficulties. The idea of starting over from the beginning can create a false sense of comfort, so I believe it’s much more important to keep trying, reminding yourself that it’s never too late to keep going.
Kihoon: I think a lot of people would say, “I just kept going,” and that’s how it was for me, too. Even when things were difficult, I continued, and even during periods when I felt discouraged, I let that time pass naturally while hoping for better days, staying consistent along the way.
Namhyun: Whenever I face difficult situations, I try to comfort myself while envisioning the future and making plans. I think about how to lead my life, and how to respond more wisely and efficiently in personal relationships and in music. I often try to see things from others’ perspectives, asking myself how my words and actions might be received. Through that process, I believe I’m continuing to grow. I think that in order to understand yourself better, it helps to take a step back from a self-centered perspective and look at things more objectively.
Jungmo: Honestly, I think every moment is a series of choices. In the past, I focused on simply how to overcome difficulties, but now I realize that how you accept them is even more important. Looking back, I’ve learned more from difficult experiences than from good ones, and as those experiences accumulate, I’ve become more flexible in handling similar situations.
Junyong: There were many tough and difficult moments, but I think I was able to endure and keep going by holding onto the dreams and goals I had when I first started.
If EVOLVE were a coming-of-age film, what kind of final scene would best match the album’s ending message of hope?
Sani: I think it would be a scene of setting sail. The album’s final track is “The Young Wave,” and more than anything, this album represents the direction Catch The Young is heading toward, so the idea of a voyage feels fitting.
Kihoon: I imagine a scene where the members sit together, watching the sun set over a vast ocean or open field. It feels like a fitting backdrop.
Namhyun: If our full-length album were a coming-of-age film, I think the ending scene would show the male and female leads simply looking at each other and smiling in silence. After going through many experiences and the ups and downs of life, they would understand everything without needing words. I imagined this while thinking about the outro of “The Young Wave.”
Jungmo: I’d like it to be an open ending. I picture a man standing at a crossroads with multiple paths ahead of him, but instead of following the direction set by the world, he chooses his own path and walks forward, ending with a shot of him from behind.
Junyong: I imagine a quiet moment after finishing a large-scale concert where fans from all over the world are cheering, with just the members together, sharing that sense of joy in silence.
The order of the songs in an album is always very important when it comes to storytelling. How do you balance heavier themes like anxiety and emotional wounds with lighter ones like hope and romance?
Sani: I tend to approach an album with the assumption that it will be listened to as a whole. I try to maintain a clear narrative flow so the story doesn’t feel uneven, paying attention to a balanced progression. Usually, we start with upbeat and bright tracks and finish with something more sentimental.
Kihoon: The countless emotions throughout the album are all things you can experience in life, and I think each of them represents a fragment of youth.
Namhyun: Since the album’s theme is evolution, I thought it was important not to lean too dark or too bright, but to strike a balanced blend. That’s why the track order and the direction of the message are structured with a sense of balance, almost like the dynamics of a performance.
Jungmo: Whatever the case, I believe these are emotions that all listeners and we have all experienced at some point in life. So rather than focusing on balance, we felt it was more important to express those emotions honestly.

oggi torniamo con un'intervista ad un gruppo davvero accattivante proveniente dall'estero, più precisamente dalla Corea del Sud.
Si tratta di una band alternative pop-rock sotto la Evermore Entertainment, che ha debuttato l'1 Novembre 2023 con il loro primo mini album Catch The Young : Fragments of Youth.
La band è composta da cinque membri: Sani, Kihoon, Namhyun, Junyong e Jungmo.
Il gruppo definisce il proprio genere musicale come "youth pop-rock", un termine che racchiude il tema centrale della giovinezza e mette in evidenza i punti di forza della band: armonia, vocalità multiple e abilità performative.
Come nuova generazione delle band K-Rock, hanno in programma di affrontare nuove sfide ed espandere le proprie attività a livello globale attraverso l’uscita di nuova musica, oltre a promozioni ed esibizioni sia in Corea che all'estero.

Come sempre, diamo loro un caloroso benvenuto e godiamoci l'intervista.
C’è stato un momento speciale sul palco, negli ultimi anni, che vi ha resi particolarmente orgogliosi come band o che ha segnato per voi un punto di svolta emotivo e professionale?
Sani: Per me, il nostro recente solo concert è stato il momento più memorabile. Mi sono esibito da solo, e l’atmosfera piacevole con il pubblico ha reso il concerto un momento speciale.
Kihoon: Personalmente, esibirci nei più grandi palchi dei festival in Corea mi ha fatto provare tante diverse emozioni. Ha davvero rafforzato la mia determinazione e voglia di continuare a migliorare, così da non restare indietro, e di esibirmi su palchi ancora più grandi davanti a più persone.
Namhyun: Più che un singolo momento di svolta, penso che si tratti di tanti momenti, come prepararsi per ogni esibizione e salire sul palco, questo piano piano ha costruito la mia fiducia in me stesso e mi ha fatto sentire fiero di me.
Jungmo: Il palco dell’Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival è quello che si distingue di più. Come membro di una band, è un palco che ho sempre sognato, quindi aver potuto davvero raggiungere questo traguardo l’ha reso ancora più importante.
Junyong: Ogni esibizione è importante ed è qualcosa da cui imparare, ma credo che i solo concert siano ciò che ci aiutano di più. Siccome dobbiamo guidare l’intera performance come artisti, impariamo e cresciamo tanto durante questa esperienza.
Come descrivereste lo stile e l’essenza del sound dei Catch The Young in una sola parola?
Sani: Credo che “giovinezza” sia la migliore. È una parola che rappresenta la direzione a cui i Catch The Young hanno puntato fin dall’inizio e che continueranno a seguire.
Kihoon: “Giovinezza”. Anno dopo anno, il nostro sound si evolve e matura. Ci sembra davvero di rappresentare l’essenza della giovinezza, per questo ho scelto questa parola.
Namhyun: Direi “nostalgia”. Credo che le nostre melodie e sound evochino emozioni dimenticate e, comunque, in qualche modo familiari.
Jungmo: Direi “sfida”. Abbiamo continuamente esplorato direzioni insolite per esprimere il nostro colore unico in maniere differenti.
Junyong: Sceglierei “giovinezza”. Per ognuno di noi, la giovinezza è “questo preciso momento” a modo suo. È per questo che è qualcosa in cui tutti possono riconoscersi e vivere insieme.
Ci sono generi o emozioni nello specifico che vorreste davvero esplorare nei vostri progetti musicali futuri?
Sani: Mi piacerebbe esplorare generi più sperimentali. Sono interessato al mescolamento o fusione di stili diversi, e anche generi come lo shoegaze o il post-punk che coinvolgono sound più distorti e consistenti sembrano interessanti.
Kihoon: Voglio sperimentare un sound più intenso e hard rock.
Namhyun: In futuro, voglio sperimentare canzoni più energiche che ci permettano di lasciarci andare completamente sul palco. Adorerei creare musica con cui noi e il pubblico possiamo dimenticarci lo stress di tutti i giorni e divertirci tutti insieme.
Jungmo: Mi piacerebbe affrontare qualcosa di più dark, tra hard rock e metal. Abbiamo inserito alcuni elementi hard rock nei nostri progetti, ma voglio portarli ancora oltre verso qualcosa di più intenso, con un sound più pesante e metallico.
Junyong: Mi piacerebbe provare un sound hard rock incentrato sul tema della ribellione. Voglio mostrare un nuovo lato di noi con un’energia più grezza e diretta.
Fino ad ora, vi siete esibiti principalmente in Corea, a Seoul, Incheon, Busan. Avete intenzione di organizzare un tour prossimamente?
C’è qualche paese nel mondo che vi incuriosisce particolarmente e in cui vi piacerebbe molto esibirvi?
Sani: Mi piacerebbe tanto visitare l’Europa e il Sud-America. Mi piacerebbe condividere la nostra musica anche in Italia!
Kihoon: Certamente, adorerei andare in tour in tutto il mondo. Voglio tanto esibirmi anche in Italia.
Namhyun: Voglio esibirmi in tanti paesi del mondo e, personalmente, adorerei andare in Europa, nel Sud-Est asiatico, e ovviamente in Italia, per divertirci con i nostri fan.
Jungmo: Piuttosto che scegliere una zona in particolare, sinceramente voglio andare ovunque si voglia ascoltare la nostra musica.
Junyong: Ci stiamo organizzando per espandere le nostre attività oltre la Corea e per esibirci in più paesi, e uno dei miei obiettivi è di condividere la musica live dei Catch The Young anche in Italia.
Guardando al futuro, quali aspetti della vostra creatività artistica non vedete l’ora di sviluppare ancora di più negli anni a venire?
Sani: Voglio perfezionare il modo in cui scrivo i testi. Mi piacerebbe creare testi che nascondano diversi livelli di significato.
Kihoon: A volte mi innervosisco quando non mi viene proprio nessuna idea, e mi preoccupo di restare indietro. Tuttavia, voglio crescere e diventare qualcuno capace di avere idee fresche e creative, traendo ispirazione e influenze sempre più positive.
Namhyun: In futuro, per far conoscere i Catch The Young a più persone e connetterli con un pubblico più ampio, voglio pensare di più a come possiamo creare musica più accessibile e portare gioia a coloro che potrebbero sentirsi come se mancasse qualcosa nella loro vita.
Jungmo: Personalmente, penso sia tutta una questione di idee. Più idee musicali si hanno mentre ci si esibisce, più ampia diventa la capacità espressiva.
Junyong: Direi l’originalità. Voglio costruire nuovi generi basati sul nostro colore unico, per evolverci verso un nuovo tipo di artisti.
Nel vostro nuovo album EVOLVE, ogni traccia è creata e prodotta da voi. Quando producete una canzone, di solito partite da un istinto emotivo o da un’idea tecnica?
Ci sono ambienti o routine specifiche che vi aiutano a trovare il giusto spazio mentale creativo?
Sani: Di solito creo canzoni basandomi sulla teoria e le conoscenze tecniche. Più che prendere ispirazione da ciò che mi circonda, tendo a cominciare con la conoscenza musicale che ho già. Non ho, invece, specifiche routine.
Kihoon: A volte comincio a lavorare spontaneamente, guidato dall’istinto, mentre altre volte comincio da un’idea definita. Cerco di catturare le idee non appena mi vengono, annotandole o registrandole sul telefono, e poi le sviluppo da lì.
Namhyun: Dipende dalla situazione, ma spesso prendo ispirazione dalle emozioni e dai ricordi che ho vissuto nel corso della mia vita, li immagino e do forma a testi, melodie e in generale all’atmosfera della canzone che catturano proprio quei sentimenti.
Junyong: Quando lavoro ai testi, cerco di avere un approccio emotivo, mentre per quanto riguarda gli strumenti, mi concentro di più sugli aspetti tecnici. In generale, punto a bilanciare entrambi gli approcci nel lavoro.
L’album include anche tracce incentrate sulla vostra voce, una di loro si intitola “Reperio”, che in latino significa “trovare” o “scoprire”: attraverso il processo di creazione di questo progetto siete riusciti a rivelare nuovi aspetti del vostro modo di fare musica, sia personalmente che come gruppo? E come avete pensato a questo titolo così particolare?
Sani: Mentre scrivevamo il testo di “Amplify”, mi sono imbattuto nella parola “ally”, che significa unirsi o creare un legame/vincolo, e ho pensato che si adattasse bene all’atmosfera della canzone, quindi ho scelto di usarla.
Namhyun: Man mano che continuiamo a esibirci e a rilasciare nuovi album, mi sono interessato sempre di più a comprendere me stesso, scoprire di nuovo cosa mi piace, a cosa voglio dedicarmi nella musica, e molto altro. I miei gusti continuano a evolversi e sto scoprendo continuamente quali abilità e approcci si adattano meglio alla mia voce.
Junyong: Trattandosi del nostro primo album, abbiamo voluto esprimere il nostro desiderio di essere più riconosciuti come band. Personalmente, da adulto nel 2026, volevo trasmettere anche un senso di attesa per ciò che ci attende in futuro.
Una delle tracce, “Amplify”, riflette la vostra determinazione nel portare avanti la vostra musica nonostante gli ostacoli. Come avete superato i momenti più difficili nel corso della vostra carriera fino ad ora e quale consiglio dareste a chi sta vivendo sfide simili?
Sani: Penso sia molto importante non arrendersi quando le cose non vanno come previsto o quando si affrontano difficoltà. L’idea di ricominciare da capo può creare un falso senso di conforto, quindi credo sia molto più importante continuare a provare, ricordando che non è mai troppo tardi per continuare ad andare avanti.
Kihoon: Credo che molte persone direbbero “ho solo continuato ad andare avanti” ed è stato così anche per me. Anche quando le cose erano difficili ho continuato, e anche nei momenti in cui mi sono sentito scoraggiato ho lasciato che il tempo passasse naturalmente, sperando in giorni migliori e mantenendo comunque la mia costanza.
Namhyun: Quando affronto situazioni difficili, cerco di confortarmi immaginando il futuro e facendo progetti. Penso a come condurre la mia vita e a come agire in maniera più saggia ed efficiente nelle mie relazioni personali e nella musica. Spesso cerco di vedere le cose dalle prospettive degli altri, chiedendomi come le mie parole e le mie azioni potrebbero essere percepite. In questo modo, credo di star continuando a crescere. Penso che per comprendere meglio sé stessi, possa aiutare fare un passo indietro rispetto a una prospettiva egocentrica e guardare alle cose in modo più oggettivo.
Jungmo: Onestamente, penso che ogni momento sia una serie di scelte. In passato, mi sono concentrato solo su come superare le difficoltà, ma ora comprendo che come vengono accettate sia molto più importante. Guardando al passato, ho imparato più dalle esperienze difficili che da quelle positive e con il tempo, accumulandole, sono diventato più flessibile nel gestire e affrontare simili situazioni.
Junyong: Ci sono stati molti momenti duri e difficili, ma credo di essere stato in grado di resistere e andare avanti continuando a credere nei sogni e negli obiettivi che mi sono posto quando ho cominciato.
Se EVOLVE fosse un film coming-of-age, che tipo di scena finale si abbinerebbe meglio al messaggio finale di speranza dell’album?
Sani: Penso che sarebbe una scena di partenza in mare. L’ultima traccia dell’album è “The Young Wave” e, più di ogni altra cosa, questo album rappresenta la direzione che hanno preso i Catch The Young, perciò l’idea di un viaggio mi sembra adatta.
Kihoon: Immagino una scena in cui i membri sono seduti insieme a guardare il sole tramontare su un oceano sconfinato o su una grande distesa di campi. Mi sembra uno sfondo adatto.
Namhyun: Se il nostro primo album fosse un film coming-of-age, credo che la scena finale mostrerebbe i due protagonisti, maschile e femminile, semplicemente guardarsi l’un l’altra e sorridere in silenzio. Dopo aver trascorso tante esperienze e gli altri e bassi della vita, capirebbero tutto senza aver bisogno delle parole. L’ho immaginato mentre pensavo alla outro di “The Young Wave”.
Jungmo: Vorrei che fosse un finale aperto. Immagino un uomo davanti a un bivio con diverse strade davanti a lui, ma invece di scegliere la direzione imposta dal mondo, segue la propria e prosegue, con un’inquadratura finale che lo riprende di spalle da lontano.
Junyong: Immagino un momento di calma dopo aver concluso un grande concerto in cui fan da tutto il mondo applaudono, e solo i membri della band insieme che condividono in silenzio quel senso di gioia.
L’ordine delle tracce in un album è sempre molto importante quando si tratta di storytelling. Come bilanciate temi più pesanti come l’ansia e le ferite emotive con quelli più leggeri come la speranza e l’amore?
Sani: Tendo ad affrontare un album partendo dal presupposto che verrà ascoltato interamente. Cerco di mantenere un flusso narrativo chiaro, cosicché la storia non risulti incoerente, prestando attenzione a una progressione bilanciata. DI solito, cominciamo con brani più energici e luminosi e finiamo con qualcosa di più sentimentale.
Kihoon: Le numerose emozioni nel corso dell’album sono tutte esperienze che si possono vivere nella vita, e credo che ciascuna rappresenti un frammento di giovinezza.
Namhyun: Siccome il tema dell’album è l’evoluzione, ho pensato che fosse importante non orientarsi troppo su toni troppo scuri o troppo chiari, ma di mantenere un giusto equilibrio. Ecco perché l’ordine elle tracce e la direzione del messaggio sono strutturati con un senso di equilibrio, quasi come le dinamiche di una performance.
Jungmo: In qualsiasi caso, credo che queste siano le emozioni che noi e tutti gli ascoltatori hanno vissuto ad un certo punto nella loro vita. Perciò, piuttosto che concentrarci su un certo equilibrio, abbiamo pensato che fosse più importante esprimere quelle emozioni in maniera onesta.
