Today we're back with an interview, in collaboration with a group we truly admire, kst.kpopshowtime!
With us today we have some very special guests – all the way from South Korea!
They are icons of conceptual K-pop and have recently announced their comeback with a stunning single, "cloud palace ~ false awakening" , a track the girls had already performed during their fourth anniversary and decided to officially release now, following overwhelming fan demand.
With this pre-release, they want to take the audience into a world suspended between dream and reality, where the feelings and emotions hidden in our subconscious come to the surface. The group’s unique and experimental sound blends with their artistic and emotional growth. "cloud palace" shows who they truly are as a group; it is the gateway to a new beginning in which they have rediscovered themselves and are now able to experiment with new melodies and express their emotions in a clearer and deeper way, further exploring their artistic identity.

Billlie, the name of the group, means expressing our
B-side or inner identity. As the group has grown artistically and emotionally, do you feel that this B-side has evolved and matured over the years?
SUHYEON: Before our debut, as a trainee, the only thing that came to mind when I thought about success was debuting. But after debuting, meeting so many fans, and walking this path together with our members, I realized that debut doesn't necessarily define everything. I started to think more about staying on stage with the members for a long time and continuing this journey together. I believe that mindset has become another growth for me.
The phrase "false awakening" often refers to thinking you've woken up while still dreaming. How does this idea connect to the story you want to tell through this comeback?
SIYOON: A false awakening is when you believe you've woken up, but you're actually still dreaming, existing at the boundary between dreams and reality. I think the story of this pre-release single shares that same idea. Through the subtle emotions where confusion and certainty coexist, we wanted to convey that growth doesn't always come from a clear awakening. I believe 'cloud palace' is a song that symbolizes the moment of facing your true self and stepping forward into the next chapter.
Has performing in different countries changed anything about the way you see or perceive your own country or identity as Billlie?
SHEON: As we toured different countries, there were definitely language and cultural differences. But seeing how so many international fans love K-pop made me realize that even beyond those language barriers, we are still able to come together as one through music, and that felt truly amazing to me.
Your unique artwork covers have been a very important and constant aspect in all your music released so far. If you could represent you artistic growth through a picture or painting, how would it be and what main colors would it have?
SUHYEON: Thinking about what kind of artwork our growth would become, I can imagine a piece that resembles a landscape where different timelines and emotions overlap. The unfamiliarity of doing something for the first time would coexist with the confidence and ease that come from time and experience. In terms of color, I hope to see a harmonious blend of MYSTIC BLUE and MYSTIC VIOLET, which represent Billlie. Was that too expected?
MOON SUA: No, I think it's a good choice
SUHYEON: I think the way blue and violet mix can express something subtle, wistful, and layered with emotion, so I really wanted those two colors to be included. For the artwork of 'cloud palace ~ false awakening', we once again had the honor of working with Regina Kim, who also worked on our previous album. I feel she captured Billlie's music so beautifully, and I'd really like to express my gratitude to her again.

Sono delle icone del k-pop concettuale e hanno da poco annunciato il loro comeback con uno splendido singolo, 'cloud palace ~ false awakening' , traccia con cui le ragazze si erano già esibite in occasione del loro quarto anniversario e che hanno scelto di rilasciare ora, a grande richiesta dei fan.
Con questa pre-release, vogliono portare il pubblico in un mondo tra sogno e realtà, laddove si affrontano i sentimenti e le emozioni che si celano nel nostro subconscio: il sound unico e sperimentale del gruppo si fonde con la sua crescita artistica ed emotiva. 'cloud palace' mostra chi sono davvero come gruppo, è la porta verso un nuovo inizio in cui hanno ritrovato loro stesse e sono in grado di sperimentare con nuove melodie e di esprimere le loro emozioni in modo più chiaro e profondo, esplorando sempre di più l’identità artistica del gruppo.

SUHYEON: Prima del nostro debutto, da trainee, l’unica cosa che mi veniva in mente quando pensavo al successo era il debutto. Ma dopo aver debuttato e incontrato tanti fan, dopo aver affrontato questo percorso con i membri, ho realizzato che il debutto non definisce necessariamente tutto. Ho iniziato a pensare di più a stare sul palco con le mie compagne per tanto tempo e a continuare questo viaggio insieme. Credo che questa mentalità sia stata un altro grande passo per la mia crescita.
La frase "false awakening" (lett. falso risveglio) si riferisce alla sensazione di essersi svegliati mentre in realtà si sta ancora sognando. Come si connette quest’idea alla storia che vorreste raccontare con questo comeback?
SIYOON: Un "false awakening" avviene quando si crede di essersi svegliati ma in realtà si sta ancora sognando, sul confine tra sogno e realtà. Penso che la storia di questo singolo si basi proprio su questo. Attraverso emozioni delicate dove confusione e certezza coesistono, vogliamo trasmettere che la crescita non si manifesta sempre da un risveglio chiaro. Credo che 'cloud palace' sia una canzone che simboleggia il momento in cui si affronta sé stessi per avanzare verso un nuovo capitolo.
Esibirvi in diversi paesi ha cambiato qualcosa nel modo in cui vedete o percepite il vostro stesso paese o la vostra identità in quanto Billlie?
SHEON: Nel corso del tour in diversi paesi, ci sono state sicuramente differenze culturali e linguistiche. Ma vedere come così tanti fan internazionali amino il K-pop mi ha fatto realizzare che, al di là delle barriere linguistiche, la musica riesce comunque a unirci, ed è stato qualcosa di davvero incredibile per me.
Le copertine dei vostri album, così uniche, sono sempre state un elemento importante e costante di tutta la musica che avete rilasciato fino ad ora. Se poteste rappresentare la vostra crescita artistica con un’immagine o un dipinto, come sarebbe e quali colori avrebbe?
SUHYEON: Se dovessi pensare a un’immagine che rappresenti la nostra crescita, immagino un’opera che richiama un paesaggio in cui diverse epoche ed emozioni si sovrappongono. La non familiarità del fare qualcosa di nuovo coesisterebbe con la sicurezza di sé e il sollievo che derivano dal tempo e dall’esperienza. Per quanto riguarda i colori, mi piacerebbe ci fosse del MYSTIC Blue e del MYSTIC Violet, i colori rappresentativi delle Billlie. È troppo scontato?
MOON SUA: No, penso che sia una buona scelta
SUHYEON: Credo che il modo in cui il blu e il viola si mescolano possa esprimere qualcosa di delicato, malinconico, ricco di sfumature emotive, quindi desideravo che questi due colori fossero inclusi. Per la copertina di ‘cloud palace ~ false awakening’ abbiamo di nuovo avuto l’onore di lavorare con Regina Kim, che aveva già preso parte al nostro album precedente. Credo che abbia colto in modo meraviglioso la musica delle Billlie, e tengo tanto a ringraziarla ancora.
