There are moments when you think too much… and others when you simply have to let yourself go.
Moments when one night, one encounter, one look can change everything. And then comes that feeling that's hard to explain: your heart starts racing, instinct takes over, and suddenly, hesitation is no longer an option.
That's exactly where "hesitate" begins - the new single, out today, September 18th, on Italian radios.

And today, with "hesitate", the second single "bed you made" from his upcoming album, he takes us once again into a story filled with instinct, emotions, and that desire to never let the right moment slip away.

Let's start by talking about your single "hesitate" - the theme of living in the moment and letting yourself be guided by chemistry is very present in the song. In your own life, are you someone who follows your instincts, or do you tend to think things through carefully before making a choice and how does this reflect into your way of making music?
Very good question… I'm definitely an overthinker. I think most artists probably are. I can sit with an idea for ages and pick it apart until I don't even know if I like it anymore haha. But then some of the best decisions I've made have been when I've just trusted my gut and gone for it. Becoming independent was probably the biggest example of that. With music I'm trying to get better at trusting that initial feeling because normally if something feels good straight away, there’s probably a reason. Especially in the studio.
"hesitate" is also an anticipation of an album scheduled for release next year. What can you already tell us about the new project?
It's my debut album which is crazy to say because I've been releasing music since I was 14. I'm not going to reveal the name just yet, but it's definitely the most thought-out project I've ever made. I was so done with releasing random singles that didn't really connect to each other, or really to me anymore. I wanted to build an actual world around the music and tell a story. It's basically a collection of thoughts, relationships and feelings from growing up and being in this industry since I was 14.
Is there a theme or emotion that runs throughout the new album, something you absolutely want to convey to the people who will listen to it?
I think the biggest theme is probably just growing up and trying to work out who you are. There's love and heartbreak in there obviously, but there's also songs about my career, questioning myself, being cynical, and then other moments where I'm really happy. It's just a very me album. When I announce the title it’ll all make a bit more sense haha.
When you walk into the studio, do you usually start with a story, a melody, or an emotion?
Honestly it changes every time. Sometimes I'll literally walk in with one word or a title. With "hesitate" I came into the studio with just that word. Other times Robin, my amazing producer, will start playing something and I'll immediately hear a melody. I actually like not having too much of a formula because otherwise I think you can end up just writing the same song over and over again.
How important is it for you to find a producer who can not only enhance your sound, but also challenge you artistically?
So important. I came to Stockholm on a two week writing trip last year and basically speed dated loads of writers and producers haha. Then I met Robin Stjernberg and we just clicked straight away. I ended up coming back and forth to Stockholm for months and we wrote most of the album together, a lot of the time just me and him. I think you need someone who gets what you're trying to do but also isn't scared to say when something could be better. He's definitely helped me find my sound more with this album.
Your music often explores relationships, emotions, and situations that feel very relatable to people your age. How important is it for you to be authentic, even when that means showing your vulnerabilities?
I think it's become more important to me as I've got older. When I was younger I probably cared more about whether something just sounded like a good pop song. Now I actually want to relate to what I'm singing. It can definitely feel a bit weird putting something really personal into a song knowing loads of people are going to hear it, but usually those end up being the songs people connect with the most anyway.
Is there something you have the courage to do artistically today that you would never have done a few years ago?
Probably just trust myself more. And not over sing everything haha. I used to have so many people around me with opinions about what song I should release, what I should look like, what I should post. Since becoming independent I've had to make a lot of those decisions myself, which was scary at first but now I really like it. With this album I've been involved in everything from the music to the artwork and videos, and I don't think I would've trusted myself enough to do that a few years ago.
Also vocally, I used to feel like I had to prove I could sing on every single song. I needed to chill haha. So there are definitely songs on this album where the vocal is way more relaxed.
You started building your career at a very young age: what is the most important thing you’ve learned from growing up in the public eye?
Probably not to compare yourself too much. Which is much easier said than done haha. I started doing this really young and you're constantly watching other people have huge songs, sell out tours or suddenly blow up and go viral. I've definitely questioned myself loads of times because of that. But everyone's career is so different and I'm getting better at actually enjoying mine instead of constantly worrying about what's next.
Today, an artist can speak directly to their audience without necessarily going through traditional media. In your opinion, how has the relationship between artists and fans changed?
It's completely changed. Fans know so much more about you now and there's basically no barrier between you and them, which I actually really like. I can release a song and five minutes later go on TikTok or Instagram and see exactly what people think about it. But there's definitely pressure now for artists to constantly be online and constantly make content. Sometimes I do think we need to remember we're musicians and not full-time content creators haha. It's hard to keep up with sometimes.
Have you ever had a song take on a completely different direction on social media than the one you had originally imagined?
Yeah definitely. Sometimes it's actually the part of the song you didn't even think was going to be the main moment that people start using. That's what's cool about social media though, once you put a song out it kind of stops being yours and people decide what they connect with. I've learnt not to try and predict it too much because it's basically impossible. If everyone knew how to make something go viral we'd all be doing it haha.
What do you think your generation is really looking for in today's pop music?
I think people can tell when something feels forced now. Everyone hears so much music every single day that you need something that makes you stop for a second. It doesn't have to be the craziest production or the biggest pop song, I think people just want to actually feel something and believe the person singing it. There's definitely been a move back towards things feeling a bit more human and imperfect, which I really really like. Especially with the whole AI thing slowly taking over the world haha.
And just to clarify, AI has not been involved in making my project lol.
If this upcoming album represents the beginning of a new chapter, where would you like it to take HRVY over the next few years?
I really want to become an album artist. I've spent so many years releasing singles and chasing that next viral song and I just don't really want to do that anymore. I want people to understand the whole world around the music, come to a show and hear an album they know front to back. Obviously I still want a massive hit haha, I've got rent to pay, I'm not going to pretend I don't. But I want to build something that actually lasts and feels really me.
Last but not least - our brand question, which is based on the name of our site, Outsider. We view that as being out of the ordinary and unique in the best way possible, so…what do you think can make you an outsider in life and as an artist?
I think being an outsider is probably just being comfortable doing something differently even when everyone else seems to be going the other way. Especially in music, it's so easy to look at what's working for someone else and think you need to do the same thing. I've definitely done that before. But I think I'm at a point now where I'd rather make something that feels completely like me and maybe not everyone gets it, than make something just because I think it's what people want. I guess the things that make you a bit different are normally the most interesting things about you anyway.
And with these words our conversation comes to an end, but not the journey of "hesitate", which begins today taking center stage on Italian radios as well.

Nostro ospite un artista che a soli 27 anni, è già un nome capace di trasformare emozioni quotidiane in canzoni immediate, riconoscibili e condivise da milioni di ascoltatori. Con oltre 2 miliardi di stream globali, una fanbase internazionale e una musica capace di parlare direttamente alla sua generazione.
Ci sono momenti in cui si pensa troppo… e altri in cui si ci deve semplicemente lasciare andare.
Momenti in cui una notte, un incontro, uno sguardo possono cambiare tutto. E allora arriva quella sensazione difficile da spiegare: il cuore accelera, l'istinto prende il sopravvento e improvvisamente esitare non è più un'opzione.
È proprio da qui che parte "hesitate", il nuovo singolo in uscita oggi, 18 Settembre nelle radio italiane.
Un brano che parla di chimica immediata, di quelle ore tarde in cui tutto sembra possibile e di quel brivido che arriva quando scegli di vivere il momento, senza fermarti a pensare a cosa potrebbe succedere dopo.
Melodie contagiose, energia e una produzione pop contemporanea accompagnano una canzone che riesce a raccontare una sensazione semplice, ma nella quale è facile riconoscersi.
Perché prima o poi capita a tutti di trovarsi davanti a un'opportunità e chiedersi se fare un passo avanti o lasciar perdere.
Lui quel passo lo ha fatto ormai da tempo.
E oggi, con "hesitate" ed il suo secondo singolo "bed you made" estratto dal suo album in arrivo, ci porta ancora una volta dentro una storia fatta di istinto, emozioni e quella voglia di non lasciarsi sfuggire il momento giusto.
Perché quando il cuore accelera…non c'è più tempo per esitare.

Come sempre diamogli un caloroso benvenuto e godetevi l'intervista!
Iniziamo parlando del tuo singolo "hesitate": il tema del vivere il momento e del lasciarsi guidare dalla chimica è molto presente nella canzone. Nella tua vita, sei una persona che segue il proprio istinto oppure tendi a riflettere attentamente prima di prendere una decisione? E come si riflette questo nel tuo modo di fare musica?
Domanda molto interessante...Sono decisamente una persona che pensa troppo. Credo che la maggior parte degli artisti lo sia. Posso passare tantissimo tempo su un'idea, analizzandola e scomponendola fino al punto in cui non so nemmeno più se mi piace, ahah. Però alcune delle decisioni migliori che ho preso sono state proprio quelle in cui mi sono semplicemente fidato del mio istinto e ho deciso di buttarmi. Diventare indipendente è probabilmente l'esempio più significativo. Con la musica sto cercando di imparare a fidarmi di più di quella sensazione iniziale, perché di solito, se qualcosa ti fa sentire bene fin da subito, probabilmente c’è un motivo. Soprattutto in studio.
"hesitate" è anche un'anticipazione dell'album previsto per il prossimo anno. Cosa puoi già raccontarci del nuovo progetto?
È il mio album di debutto, ed è assurdo dirlo perché pubblico musica da quando avevo 14 anni. Non voglio ancora svelare il titolo, ma è sicuramente il progetto su cui ho riflettuto di più tra tutti quelli che ho realizzato. Ero davvero stanco di pubblicare singoli casuali che non avevano molto a che fare l'uno con l'altro, e che ormai non mi rappresentavano nemmeno più. Volevo costruire un vero e proprio mondo intorno alla musica e raccontare una storia. È fondamentalmente una raccolta di pensieri, relazioni ed emozioni legati alla crescita e al fatto di essere entrato in questo mondo a soli 14 anni.
C'è un tema o un'emozione che attraversa tutto il nuovo album, qualcosa che vuoi assolutamente trasmettere alle persone che lo ascolteranno?
Credo che il tema principale sia semplicemente quello della crescita e del cercare di capire chi sei. Ovviamente ci sono l'amore e il cuore spezzato, ma ci sono anche canzoni che parlano della mia carriera, dei momenti in cui metto in discussione me stesso, del mio lato più cinico e poi altri momenti in cui sono davvero felice. È semplicemente un album molto "me". Quando annuncerò il titolo, tutto avrà un po' più senso, ahah.
Quando entri in studio, di solito parti da una storia, da una melodia o da un'emozione?
Onestamente, cambia ogni volta. A volte entro letteralmente con una sola parola o un titolo. Con "hesitate" sono entrato in studio avendo solo quella parola. Altre volte Robin, il mio fantastico produttore, inizia a suonare qualcosa e io sento immediatamente una melodia. In realtà mi piace non avere una formula troppo precisa, perché altrimenti credo che si finisca per scrivere sempre la stessa canzone.
Quanto è importante per te trovare un produttore che non solo sappia valorizzare il tuo sound, ma che sia anche in grado di metterti alla prova artisticamente?
È importantissimo. L'anno scorso sono andato a Stoccolma per un songwriting camp di due settimane e, in pratica, ho fatto una sorta di speed date con tantissimi autori e produttori, ahah. Poi ho conosciuto Robin Stjernberg e abbiamo avuto subito un'intesa. Alla fine sono tornato avanti e indietro a Stoccolma per mesi e abbiamo scritto insieme la maggior parte dell'album, spesso solo io e lui. Credo che tu abbia bisogno di qualcuno che capisca quello che stai cercando di fare, ma che non abbia paura di dirti quando qualcosa potrebbe essere migliore. Con questo album mi ha sicuramente aiutato a trovare ancora di più il mio sound.
La tua musica esplora spesso relazioni, emozioni e situazioni in cui molte persone della tua età possono riconoscersi. Quanto è importante per te essere autentico, anche quando questo significa mostrare le tue vulnerabilità?
Credo che sia diventato sempre più importante per me con il passare degli anni. Quando ero più giovane probabilmente m'interessava di più che qualcosa suonasse semplicemente come una bella canzone pop. Ora voglio davvero riuscire a riconoscermi in quello che canto. Può essere decisamente strano mettere qualcosa di molto personale in una canzone sapendo che la ascolteranno tantissime persone, ma di solito sono proprio quelle le canzoni con cui le persone riescono a connettersi di più.
C'è qualcosa che oggi hai il coraggio di fare artisticamente e che qualche anno fa non avresti mai fatto?
Probabilmente fidarmi di più di me stesso. E smettere di esagerare con il canto in ogni canzone, ahah. Una volta avevo tantissime persone intorno a me che avevano un'opinione su quale canzone avrei dovuto pubblicare, su come avrei dovuto apparire, su cosa avrei dovuto postare. Da quando sono diventato indipendente, ho dovuto prendere molte di queste decisioni da solo. All'inizio faceva paura, ma ora mi piace davvero. Con questo album sono stato coinvolto in tutto, dalla musica alle copertine, fino ai video, e non credo che qualche anno fa mi sarei fidato abbastanza di me stesso da farlo.
Anche a livello vocale, una volta sentivo di dover dimostrare di saper cantare in ogni singola canzone. Avevo bisogno di darmi una calmata, ahah. Quindi in questo album ci sono sicuramente canzoni in cui la voce è molto più rilassata.
Hai iniziato a costruire la tua carriera da giovanissimo: qual è la cosa più importante che hai imparato crescendo sotto gli occhi del pubblico?
Probabilmente a non paragonarmi troppo agli altri. Che è molto più facile a dirsi che a farsi, ahah. Ho iniziato a fare tutto questo quando ero davvero giovane e ti ritrovi continuamente a guardare altre persone avere grandi successi, fare tour sold out o diventare improvvisamente virali. Per questo ho messo in discussione me stesso tantissime volte. Ma la carriera di ognuno è così diversa e sto imparando sempre di più a godermi la mia invece di preoccuparmi continuamente di cosa succederà dopo.
Oggi un artista può parlare direttamente al proprio pubblico senza necessariamente passare attraverso i media tradizionali. Secondo te, com'è cambiato il rapporto tra artisti e fan?
È cambiato completamente. Oggi i fan sanno molto di più su di te e praticamente non c'è più una barriera tra te e loro, cosa che in realtà mi piace molto. Posso pubblicare una canzone e cinque minuti dopo andare su TikTok o Instagram e vedere esattamente cosa ne pensa la gente. Però oggi c'è sicuramente molta pressione sugli artisti affinché siano costantemente online e producano continuamente contenuti. A volte penso che dovremmo ricordarci che siamo musicisti e non content creator a tempo pieno, ahah. A volte è difficile stare al passo con tutto.
Ti è mai capitato che una canzone prendesse sui social una direzione completamente diversa da quella che avevi immaginato inizialmente?
Sì, decisamente. A volte è proprio la parte della canzone che non pensavi sarebbe stata il momento principale a essere quella che le persone iniziano a utilizzare. Ed è questo il bello dei social: una volta che pubblichi una canzone, in un certo senso smette di essere tua e sono le persone a decidere con cosa si sentono più in sintonia. Ho imparato a non cercare di prevederlo troppo, perché è praticamente impossibile. Se tutti sapessero come creare qualcosa di virale, lo faremmo tutti, ahah.
Cosa pensi che la tua generazione cerchi davvero nella musica pop di oggi?
Credo che ormai le persone riescano a capire quando qualcosa sembra forzato. Tutti ascoltano così tanta musica ogni giorno che serve qualcosa che ti faccia fermare per un attimo. Non deve necessariamente avere la produzione più folle o essere la più grande canzone pop di sempre: credo che le persone vogliano semplicemente provare qualcosa e credere nella persona che sta cantando. C'è sicuramente stato un ritorno a qualcosa di più umano e imperfetto, e questa cosa mi piace davvero tanto. Soprattutto con tutta questa storia dell'AI che sta lentamente conquistando il mondo, ahah.
E, giusto per chiarire, l'AI non è stata coinvolta nella realizzazione del mio progetto, lol.
Se questo nuovo album rappresenta l'inizio di un nuovo capitolo, dove vorresti che portasse HRVY nei prossimi anni?
Voglio davvero diventare un artista da album. Ho passato così tanti anni a pubblicare singoli ed inseguire il prossimo brano virale, e semplicemente non voglio più farlo. Voglio che le persone comprendano tutto il mondo che c'è intorno alla musica, vengano a un mio concerto e ascoltino un album che conoscono dalla prima all'ultima canzone. Ovviamente voglio ancora una hit enorme, ahah, devo pur pagare l'affitto, non farò finta che non sia così. Ma voglio costruire qualcosa che duri davvero nel tempo e che mi rappresenti completamente.
Per concludere - la nostra domanda di rito, legata al nome del nostro sito, Outsider. Lo intendiamo come qualcosa di fuori dall'ordinario e unico, nel miglior modo possibile, quindi...cosa pensi possa renderti un outsider nella vita e come artista?
Credo che essere un outsider significhi semplicemente sentirsi a proprio agio nel fare le cose in modo diverso, anche quando sembra che tutti gli altri stiano andando nella direzione opposta. Soprattutto nella musica, è molto facile guardare ciò che funziona per qualcun altro e pensare di dover fare la stessa cosa. L'ho fatto anch'io, sicuramente. Ma credo di essere arrivato a un punto in cui preferisco creare qualcosa che mi rappresenti completamente, anche se magari non tutti lo capiranno, piuttosto che fare qualcosa solo perché penso sia ciò che le persone vogliono. Alla fine, credo che proprio le cose che ti rendono un po’ diverso siano spesso gli aspetti più interessanti di te.
E con queste parole si chiude la nostra chiacchierata, ma non il viaggio di "hesitate", che inizia oggi come protagonista anche nelle radio italiane.
